About Brittany Smith

Paralegal

Brittany Smith joined the Merrigan Legal team as a paralegal in 2022 and brings 15 years of experience working in the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and its extension the Defense Base Act (DBA). On our team, she is responsible for providing case management of DBA claims from the initial opening of claims at the Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs through the litigation of claims at the Office of Administrative Law Judges level.

Prior to joining Merrigan Legal, Brittany worked for various law firms that represented injured workers. She began her paralegal career in 2007 when she worked with attorneys who primarily represented longshoremen as well as claimants under the Defense Base Act and Nonappropriated Funds Instrumentalities Act.

In 2014, Brittany joined Paul M. Doolittle, P.A. where she took a more active role in assisting with DBA claims. She built relationships with their clients while helping to ease the process of obtaining proper medical treatment and indemnity benefits.

Before working as a paralegal, Brittany joined the workforce in 2005 as a private investigator after graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. She still uses the skills she gained as a PI to help her with the claimants we represent today.

When she’s not working, Brittany enjoys traveling to various locations to ride her mountain bike in addition to riding four-wheelers, jet skiing, scuba diving, and fishing.
